SINGER FURNITURE VICE PRESIDENT POTEAT DIES AT 55

Edward L. Poteat, vice president of sales of Singer Furniture Co. of Roanoke, died Thursday of an apparent heart attack while on a hunting trip with a son and close friends.

Poteat, 55, was based in High Point, N.C. He joined Singer in 1969 as a sales representative and held various sales and marketing jobs until 1990 when he was named vice president.

He was among a group of managers who pursued a management buyout of Singer in 1990.

Poteat is survived by his wife, Susan, and three sons.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Forest Hills Cemetery in Rock Hill, S.C. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Singer Furniture Co. showroom in High Point. Instead of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
