HAIRSTON'S 46 LEAD LANCERS TO EASY VICTORY

Tanesha Hairston scored a career-high 46 points, hitting nine of 11 shots from 3-point range, as Laurel Park defeated Gretna 86-62 in a Piedmont District girls' basketball shootout Thursday night.

Torsheda Dillard had 16 points and Toi Perkins added 13 for the Lancers (11-5, 10-4).

Lashawn Walker scored 23 points and Charita Dews had 22 for Gretna. \

RINGGOLD - Tasha (15) and Kim Hairston (13) combined for 28 points as the top-ranked team in Timesland overwhelmed the Wildcats in the Piedmont District.

Heather Burke and Lori Wimbush added 12 points each and Aimee Barker had 11 for Bassett (16-0, 14-0), which led 37-17 at halftime. \

MARTINSVILLE - Keenya Hairston gunned in 28 points to lead the Bulldogs to an easy Piedmont District victory.

Erica Brandon had 17 points and Tresita Holland 16 for Martinsville (12-4, 12-2), which led 49-20 at halftime.

Patrick County got 24 points from Amy Nelson and 10 from Misty Clark.

COVINGTON - Jackie Banks scored eight of her 16 points in the fourth quarter, and the Terriers went on to edge the host Mountaineers in a Blue Ridge District matchup.

Ten players scored for William Byrd (12-4, 5-1). Alleghany is 10-6 and 2-4.

CHATHAM - Juanita Crews hit five-of-seven free throws in the final period, and the Cavaliers went on to edge the visiting Warriors in a Piedmont District game.

Magna Vista (12-5, 9-5) held a 46-43 after three quarters, but went ice cold in the fourth.\ James River 48

Bath County 17

HOT SPRINGS - Angie Johnson scored 14 points, and Kara Mundy added 12 as the Knights rolled over the host Chargers in a Pioneer District matchup.

James River (8-8, 6-2) jumped to a 21-8 halftime lead, and Bath County (3-13, 0-9) had problems holding onto the ball. \

Jefferson Forest 35

BEDFORD - Kellea Whorley scored 15 points, and Sue Ann Cowlbeck grabbed 14 rebounds as the Minettes whipped the visiting Cavaliers in a Seminole District game.

Amy Baxter also added 13 points for Liberty (13-3, 13-3). Jefferson Forest is 3-12 and 3-12. \
