SCHOOLS CONFISCATE 4 WEAPONS - IN A WEEK

Virginia Beach school officials have confiscated four firearms - two shotguns, a 9mm pistol and a pellet gun - from students this week.

"We have not resorted to random checks in classrooms," Wylie French, the district's director of school leadership, said Friday. "But the superintendent and I will be taking a long, hard look at other measures, and [random checks] is going to be one possibility."

On Wednesday, officials said they found an unloaded, 24-inch sawed-off shotgun in a student's locker at Bayside High School.

Thursday, a Green Run High School student brought a sawed-off shotgun and a 9mm handgun wrapped in a shirt to school.

On Friday, a pellet gun was found in a student's pickup truck at Cox High School. - Associated Press
