Moran, who finished with 46 yards on eight carries, opened the scoring in the first quarter for Floyd County (6-1 overall, 4-1 in the district). A two-point conversion attempt failed and the Buffaloes led 6-0.
Galax (1-6, 1-4) went up 7-6 with 8:24 left in the game when Bobby Melton scored on a 4-yard run. Melton had a team-high 94 yards on 19 carries as the Maroon Tide outrushed Floyd County 206-205.
The Buffaloes retaliated with 4:15 remaining when Moran snuck in for his second touchdown. Moran was also 4-for-10 passing for 65 yards.
Floyd County running back Jamie Warren finished with 102 yards rushing on 12 carries. \

BLAND - The Spartans, the state's fifth-ranked Group A team, remained unbeaten with a Mountain Empire District victory over the Bears.
Peter Janney led the ground attack for Giles (8-0, 6-0) with 93 yards on 11 carries. Raypheal Milton had 67 yards on 19 carries and also threw a 59-yard touchdown pass. His brother, Maurice, added a touchdown run and four conversion kicks.
John Stinson rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown for Bland County (2-6, 0-6). Monty Matthews caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from David Lambert and kicked a 37-yard field goal. He finished with five receptions for 79 yards.

SHAWSVILLE - Kevin Beasley rushed for 85 yards and three touchdowns as the Shawnees (2-5, 1-5) crushed the Pioneers (3-4, 3-2) in a Mountain Empire District game.
Shawsville struck early when Ben Basham, who finished with a team-high 77 yards, rushed 47 yards for a touchdown.
Fort Chiswell quarterback Kenny Jones completed six of eight passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Jones had three catches for 86 yards and Michael White caught three for 73 yards for the Pioneers. Each scored one touchdown.

WYTHEVILLE - The Maroons' unbeaten record was in jeopardy until they scored three second-half touchdowns, two by Randy Blevins, who also kicked four extra points.
Quarterback Jeffery Bourne had five carries for 109 yards, including a 72-yard run, to lead George Wythe (7-0 overall, 5-0 Hogoheegee District). Blevins had 71 yards on 10 carries for the Maroons, who had a 330-161 margin in total offense.
Holston, which forced a 7-7 tie at the half, dropped to 3-5 and 2-4. \
