Council's Public Operations Committee approved the list at its meeting Thursday afternoon. It also will recommend that the work not be scheduled until spring, so that the town will know how much money it has left after snow removal costs this winter.
It places alleys scheduled for improvements into three groups. The top priority would be for those with the highest traffic use.
The second priority would be for alleys used for residential access. The last priority would be for those providing access to fewer than three homes or limited-use alleys.
Recommended for first priority are alleys between Jefferson and Washington from Main to Third; Jefferson and Washington from Main to Peak Creek; Jackson to Stuart, which could be an emergency snow route; and Randolph and Henry between Main and 8th.
The first two projects would cost an estimated $5,000 each, and the last two, $2,000 each. The first three would be paved and the last, covered with gravel.
Only one alley will be recommended for the second-priority category: between Madison and Floyd from 2nd to 5th , an area that gets a lot of residential use. The alley would get gravel and the cost would be about $1,000.
