PULASKI COUNTY PLANS BIG HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION

A full day of Halloween activities is planned for Oct. 30 in Pulaski County.

About 600 children are expected to participate in the Treat Trail, scheduled for 3 to 7 p.m. in the towns of Dublin and Pulaski. It is limited to children up to age 12, and they must be accompanied by an adult.

Even though Halloween traditionally falls on Oct. 31, a Sunday, the governing bodies of the county and towns have all agreed to observe Halloween one day early. Dublin Town Council was the last to make it official, at its meeting Thursday night.

A costume parade in Pulaski next Saturday afternoon will start the Halloween activities.

Parade participants will start lining up in front of the County Administration Building on Third Street at 1:30 p.m. Children up to age 8 must be accompanied by an adult for this event.

The parade will start at 2 p.m., moving from its starting point onto Jefferson Avenue, then onto Main Street and returning to the administration building.

A costume contest in the old central gymnasium in the building will follow the parade.

Costumed contestants will compete in age groups for prizes awarded to the funniest, scariest, most original and prettiest costumes.

Free treat bags will be given out to children following the contest, along with maps of Pulaski and Dublin showing which merchants are participating in the Treat Trail. About 80 businesses will offer treats to the hundreds of children traveling the route.

Extra maps will be available after 3 p.m. at the Pulaski County Public Library, Pulaski County Office on Youth in the former Jefferson School building and the Dublin town office.

The maps must be presented at each store or business for treats to be received. Each merchant will stamp the map, showing that the child has visited that store or shop.

The maps will also show what hours each business is open. Some may close before the Treat Trail activities end at 7 p.m., and the information will allow the children to visit those businesses first.
