Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Sue Terry has proposed giving $100 million to the state's poorest school districts. The money would be distributed according to the number of "at-risk" students in each locality, determined by the percentage of those receiving free lunches. Here's an estimate of how localities in our area would fare: Bedford County: $300,000 to $350,000. Bedford: $35,000 to $40,000. Franklin County: $400,000 to $425,000. Montgomery County: $500,000. Pulaski County: $500,000.
Radford: $47,000 to $50,000.
Roanoke County: $125,000.
Roanoke: $3.4 million.
Salem: $500,000. - Terry's staff
