If the entries in NewsFun's annual Halloween Art contest are any indication, there will be a wide assortment of creative characters roaming the streets of Southwest Virginia Saturday and Sunday nights.
More than 700 readers entered our annual contest, which asked entrants to submit an original color drawing of themselves in their Halloween costumes. Now, on to the winners . . .
In the kindergarten-second grade category, the winner is Corey Gallion, a first-grader at East Salem Elementary School. Winner in the third-fifth grade division is Becky Hoke, who is in the third grade at Troutville Elementary. Shar Taliaferro, an eighth-grader at Cave Spring Junior High in Roanoke County, is the winner in the sixth-eighth grade category.
Honorable mention in the kindergarten-second grade category goes to: Paige Griffith, first grade, Monterey Elementary in Roanoke; Cannady Jo Graybill, first grade, Colonial Elementary in Blue Ridge; Anna Lee Burnstein, kindergarten, Crystal Spring Elementary in Roanoke; Sarah Woodyard, first grade, Narrows Elementary; Ashton Sullivan, first grade, Virginia Heights in Roanoke; Allison Boush, second grade, Oak Grove Elementary in Roanoke County; and Wayne Hager, first grade, East Salem Elementary.

NewsFun will throw a party for the class of each winner in the contest, which was judged by Tracy Budd, a Roanoke artist and art teacher.
