AREA PLAYERS IN SCRIMMAGE AT PH

Bluefield College, preparing for its men's basketball debut under former Franklin County head coach and former VMI assistant Walt Ayers, will feature five players from Virginia in a scrimmage tonight at 7 p.m. at Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke.

Patrick Henry coach Woody Deans, a Bluefield alumnus, will serve as host for the affair. Former Timesland players on the Ramblin' Rams squad are senior Mark Mills from Pulaski, sophomore Pat Smith from Bland and sophomore Jason Stockner from Franklin County.

Admission will be free, and there will be refreshments and door prizes.

Third-seeded Virginia (13-3, 4-2) will play sixth-seeded Wake Forest (7-6-2, 1-4-1) in the first round of the ACC men's soccer tournament on Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C.

The winner plays the winner between No. 2 Duke and No. 7 Maryland. Clemson, seeded No. 1, has a first-round bye and on Nov. 5 will play the winner of the first-round match between No. 4 North Carolina and No. 5 North Carolina State. The championship game is Nov. 7 at 12:30 p.m.

Virginia concludes its regular-season schedule Saturday against George Mason at Klockner Stadium at 2:30 p.m.

Second-seeded Radford (15-1-2) has a bye when the Big South Conference women's soccer tournament starts Thursday at Maryland-Baltimore County in Baltimore.

On Friday at 7 p.m. in the semifinals, the Highlanders will play the winner of the first-round match between third-seeded Maryland-Baltimore County and sixth-seeded Towson State.

In the other semifinal, top-seeded UNC Greensboro plays the winner of the match between No. 4 Campbell and No. 5 Charleston Southern. The championship match is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m.
