OBIT BATES, GARLAND MCKINLEY
BATES, Garland McKinley, 84, of Silver Springs, Md., formerly of Roanoke,
passed away Saturday, October 23, 1993. He was a member of Forest Park Baptist
Church and was a retired letter carrier, U.S. Postal Service. He was a navy
veteran of World War II, and retired from the U.S. Navy Reserve. He was active
in Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years. He is survived by two daughters,
Eloise B. Price, Richmond, Phyllis B. Robinson, Silver Springs, Md.; two sons,
John G. Bates, Richmond, Charles V. Bates, Roanoke; ten grandchildren; ten
great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's North
Chapel, 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 27, 1993, with the Rev. Frank W. Feather
officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Park Baptist Church or to a favorite
charity. Friends may call Oakey's North Chapel, where the family will receive
friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
