WDBJ BROADCASTER REYNOLDS DEAD AT 82

A former Roanoke broadcasting veteran died Tuesday in the Roanoke Memorial Rehab-Cancer Center.

Paul E. Reynolds, 82, of Salem, spent almost 42 years with WDBJ-TV and the old WDBJ Radio.

He started his career as a part-time radio announcer in August 1934 and moved up the ranks to become studio director and program director. Reynolds retired in February 1976 as assistant manager.

A 1933 Virginia Military Institute graduate, Reynolds served as company commander of an Army intelligence unit during World War II.

Reynolds was born in Roanoke and attended Jefferson High School. He was married to the late Virginia Maness for 54 years. A community leader, he was a past president of the Rotary Club of Roanoke, a past board member of the Roanoke Chapter of American Red Cross, and District Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America.

He had a keen interest in aviation and received his pilot's license in the mid 1930s.
