The Salvation Army Christmas Bureau will be taking applications for assistance for its annual program Nov. 8 through 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Corps Community Center, 724 Dale Ave. S.E.
Social service agencies, churches, and civic groups are encouraged to use the bureau as a clearing house to avoid duplicating assistance.
Roanoke, Salem, Vinton, Rocky Mount, Boones Mill, and Craig, Franklin, Botetourt and Bedford counties will be receiving assistance.
Food and toys will be distributed from Dec. 21 to Dec. 23.
Contributions of food or money should taken to The Salvation Army, or mailed to P.O. Box 1631, Roanoke, Virginia 24008. For more information, call 434-5335.
Salem man published in national poetry volume
David Scott Bowers of 5251 Cherokee Hills Drive, Salem had an original poem titled "Where Am I" published in the National Library of Poetry's "A Break in the Clouds."
