BASSETT STAYS UNBEATEN BY TOPPING LANCERS

Kim Hairston scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers, as undefeated Bassett ran past Laurel Park 59-46 in a Piedmont District girls' basketball game Tuesday night.

Bassett (17-0, 15-0) led 27-18 at halftime and took outscored the Lancers 21-6 in the third to take a 48-24 lead. Laurel Park (12-6, 11-5) rallied in the fourth quarter but couldn't catch up.

Tanesha Hairston scored 18 points and Torsheda Dillard had 10 for the Lancers.

Magna Vista 90\ Dan River 28

RIDGEWAY - All the players scored as the Warriors romped over the Wildcats in a Piedmont District game.

Taneshia Kellum scored 16 points and Tonya Zehr had 14 to lead Magna Vista (13-5, 10-5). The Warriors also got 13 points from Angie Morton and 10 each from Felicia Craig and Kristy Wilkins.

Dan River is 0-19, 0-17.o

Rocky Gap 68\ Giles 49

ROCKY GAP - Freshman Amanda Clark had career highs of 20 points and 17 rebounds three other Rocky Gap players scored in double figures as the Eagles ran away from guest Giles in a Mountain Empire District game Tuesday night.

Christie Whitt scored 17, Nancy Tupper chipped in 13, and Angel Garcia had her first double-figure game with 10 for Rocky Gap (9-9 overall, 8-7 in the district). Tamika Saunders led Giles (5-10 in the district) with 14 points.

Lord Botetourt 72\ Rockbridge County 15

DALEVILLE - The Cavaliers held their visitors to only three field goals - all in the first half - in registering a lopsided Blue Ridge District victory.

Ashley Moore led Lord Botetourt (17-1, 7-0) with 23 points.

Rockbridge County (0-7 district) trailed 39-7 at halftime.

Narrows 49\ Grayson County 37

NARROWS - Melinda Fleeman scored 13 of her 26 points in the fourth quarter and snagged 13 rebounds for the game as Narrows overpowered the visitors from Grayson County in a Mountain Empire District game.

Melissa Lawrence added 14 points and 10 assists for the Green Wave (8-9 overall, 7-8 in the district). Tia Stuart paced Grayson County (2-17 overall, 2-15 in the district) with 19 points.

Floyd County 77\ Fort Chiswell 44

MAX MEADOWS - Lynette Nolley and Leigh Ann Pursiful scored 14 points each as the Buffaloes stomped the Pioneers to remain unbeaten in the Mountain Empire District.

Pursiful had 11 points in the second quarter as Floyd County (16-1, 16-0) outscored Fort Chiswell 26-11 to take a 42-17 halftime lead.

With 10 points, Amber Gunter was the Pioneers' lone double-digit scorer. Fort Chiswell is 7-10, 7-8.

Martinsville 84\ Tunstall 47

DRY FORK - Keenya Hairston scored a career-high 31 points and Martinsville dominated the host Trojans from start to finish in a Piedmont District game.

Sam Ferguson and Erica Brandon combined for 22 points for the Bulldogs (13-4 overall, 13-2 in the district). Cheaketa Thompson scored 16 points for Tunstall.

\ Glenvar 72\ Parry McCluer 22

The Highlanders hit their first six shots and raced to an 18-6 lead after one quarter en route to a Pioneer District blowout.

Toree Morris led the way with 24 points for Glenvar (14-3, 9-0). Heather Beveridge had 12 points and Marilea Hale 11.

Parry McCluer (9-7, 6-4) got 11 points from Stephanie Rhodes.

Northside 57\ Alleghany 42

The Vikings made 13 of 26 fourth quarter foul shots to pull away and avenge an earlier Blue Ridge District defeat.

Michelle Orlando, who did not start because of an illness, came off the bench to nail three of four 3-pointers and score 13 points, Tanya Holmes added 11, and freshman Sarah Hicks added 12 rebounds for the Vikings (7-10, 3-4 in the district). Amanda Stover had 12 for the Mountaineers (10-7 overall, 2-5 in the district).

George Wythe 55\ Chilhowie 48

CHILHOWIE - Stacy Green had 24 points and nine rebounds, and Lisa Garland added 10 rebounds and eight points as the Maroons won a Hogoheegee District game.

Megan Johnson added 12 points for George Wythe (5-12, 3-7).

Chilhowie got 20 points from Emily Dungan.

\ PH-Glade Spring 41\ Rural Retreat 39

GLADE SPRING - Karen Stanley scored 11 points and Heather Stickler had 11 rebounds as the Rebels upset the Indians and handed them their first loss of the season.

Tanya Tarter scored 14 for the Indians (16-1 overall, 12-1 in the Hogoheegee District). PH-Glade Spring is 9-6, 7-5.
