Jenn Roessler had two goals and Robin McLaughlin broke the school record for career points as Roanoke defeated Randolph-Macon Woman's College 4-1 in the ODAC women's soccer tournament in Salem. McLaughlin has 94 points in her career with the Maroons (10-6-1).
Tene North scored the decisive goal in the second half as Georgia Southern defeated Virginia Tech 2-1 in a women's soccer match in Statesboro, Ga. Sarah Schwark scored the lone goal for the Hokies (6-8-1).
Josh MacDermod scored all the goals for Roanoke Valley Christian as the Eagles (9-2-1) defeated Hargrave Military Academy 4-3 in overtime in the semifinals of the Virginia Independent Conference soccer tournament in Roanoke. Hargrave fell to 10-2.
North Cross whipped Stuart Hall 15-1, 4-15, 15-1 in volleyball to close out an undefeated Blue Ridge Conference season. The Raiders (15-2 overall, 10-0 in the BRC) will play the winner of Roanoke Valley Christian and Timberlake Christian at 10 a.m. Saturday at Roanoke Valley Christian.
Amanda Bounds and Sarah Miller of Patrick Henry defeated Deborah Masters and Shannon Vittur of Cave Spring 6-0, 6-1 to capture the Roanoke Valley District doubles championship in girls' tennis. Cave Spring and Patrick Henry won semifinal matches in the team competition and will meet today at 3 p.m. at River's Edge to determine which team advances to regional play.
