RELIGION BRIEFS

STEPHEN ARRINGTON, a member of several Jacques Cousteau expeditions, will speak twice on Nov. 9 at Roanoke Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1701 Memorial Ave. S.W. He will speak at the Adventist Preparatory School at 10:30 a.m. and that night at the church at 7.

Arrington, author of a new book, "Journey Into Darkness," began his career in the Vietnam era as a Navy bomb-disposal frogman. He later became involved in illegal drug use and went to prison as part of the John DeLorean drug case. Following his Christian conversion, Arrington joined the Cousteau team. He will present an anti-drug message, show slides of some of his underwater adventures and autograph his book.

\ A CLOTHING CLOSET housed at West End United Methodist Church, 13th Street and Campbell Avenue Southwest, need volunteers. The closet is open each Monday morning.

About 25 people receive clothing each week. Volunteers who can give three hours on Monday mornings once or twice a month should call Marie Barton at 343-8374 or Mildred Surber at 343-6886.

\ ELDER DANIEL KOVACS, a former pastor of Roanoke Seventh-day Adventist Church, will preach Saturday at 11 a.m. for the North Valley Seventh-day Adventist congregation. The group meets at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4909 Peters Creek Road. A luncheon will follow.

\ A MUSICAL PROGRAM featuring the Voices of Hollins choir will be held Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Hollins. The Golden Leaf Missionary Circle is the sponsor.

\ BISHOP HAROLD BEAVER of Havaco, W.Va., is guest evangelist for revival services in progress through Friday night at 8 at Refuge Temple, Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith at 2620 Cove Road N.W.

\ A CANDLELIGHT SERVICE, "Hold the Light," is scheduled Sunday at 4 p.m. at High Street Baptist Church, 2302 Florida Ave. N.W. The Faith Fellowship Missionary Band is the sponsor.\ THE MEN'S CHORUS of Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1014 Norfolk Ave. S.W., will celebrate its 15th anniversary Sunday at 3:30 p.m. with a program featuring Clarence Williams and Danice Hunt.

\ DAVID PETERSON, a Roanoke licensed professional counselor, will lead a Family Life Conference Nov. 7 and 8 at Salem Baptist Church, 103 N. Broad St. in Salem.
