AN EXTREMIST VIEW FROM DARK AGES

THE Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce dinner and candidates' forum, held at the Airport Holiday Inn on Oct. 5, Morgan Griffith recommended changing the state laws to allow corporal punishment in our public schools. He said this was a way of ensuring discipline. Other candidates immediately disavowed this idea.

Griffith's call for instating physical punishment in our schools is a throwback to the Dark Ages. These extremist views have no place in the representation from this part, or any part, of Virginia. Griffith should correct his call for putting corporal punishment back in our schools.
