RINER - The Eagles' full-court, man-to-man defense harassed the Rockets (0-18, 0-16) into 51 turnovers. Those mistakes led to many easy layups for Auburn. Angie Simpkins led the Eagles (12-6, 11-5) with 20 points, and Sherry Smith added 14 points and 14 steals. \

SHAWSVILLE - Cindy Chafin scored a game-high 17 points as the Buffaloes, winners of the regular-season Mountain Empire district title, continued their march with a rout of the Shawnees.
Lee-Ann Pursifull added 15 points - including nine on 3-pointers - for the fourth-ranked Buffaloes (18-1, 16-0), who led 52-21 at halftime.
Lori Harmon had 11 points, and Lynette Nolley added 10.
Brandy Alexander and Robin Burdette led Shawsville (11-7, 11-5) with 10 points apiece.

PEARISBURG - Tammy Cox hit two free throws with 25 seconds remaining to give the Maroon Tide a Mountain Empire District victory over the Spartans. Galax (11-7, 11-5) stormed to an 11-point halftime lead, but Giles (5-13, 5-11) came back in the third period, outscoring the Maroon Tide 10-2. \

HILLSVILLE - Lori Wilson's late free throws helped the Demons defeat the host Cavaliers (9-8, 0-4) in a New River District game.
After Carroll County closed to 45-41 late in the game, Wilson sank three of four free-throw attempts to seal the victory. She finished with 14 points.
Maureen Jackson led the Demons (9-9, 2-2) with a game-high 20 points.
Marie Martin led Carroll County with 12 points. \
