FCS DRIVERS GEAR UP FOR SEASON FINALE

The track is dark at Franklin County Speedway for the first weekend in seven months, but promoter Whitey Taylor says this week will more than make up for it.

The season finale, originally scheduled for Saturday, was postponed because of Halloween.

Instead, the Thunder Road 500 will run this week with practice on Thursday, a non-winners' race Friday starting at 7 p.m. and a full lineup starting at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Saturday's Late Model Stock Car feature, a 200-lap event paying $3,000 to the winner, has attracted interest from several states.

"We'll have entries from West Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland and possibly Tennessee," Taylor said. "I'm looking for 30-35 Late Models, our biggest field of the year, particularly since New River and Lonesome Pine speedways have closed for the season."

Taylor has operated FCS for 15 years, and this is the first year he has run every scheduled event.

"I've usually lost three or four races each year because of rainouts," Taylor said.

The Thunder Road 500 will include 35-lap races in all divisions other than Late Model. All of Saturday's races will count double points.
