OBIT RUSSELL, HARRY PATRICK

RUSSELL, Harry Patrick, 64, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, October 29, 1993. He founded the New Yorker Delicatessen in 1958. In 1975 he was awarded the key to the Star City by Mayor Roy L. Webber for his pioneering of the Roanoke Valley's First Delicatessen at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Grand Opening in his new building. He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and a longtime member of the Roanoke Restaurant Association, the Virginia Restaurant Association, the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Williamson Road Action Forum. Surviving are his wife, Eileen Alouf Russell of Roanoke; one daughter, Elaine Marie Russell of Roanoke; two sons, Dr. Harry Patrick Russell II and Michael Anthony Russell; three sisters, Mrs. Kyle (Ruby) Hart, Mrs. Carlton (Peggy) Saul of Roanoke and Mrs. Everette (Helen) Burdette of San Leandro, Calif. He is also survived by Dr. and Mrs. Fred G. Alouf, Dr. and Mrs. Donald R. Alouf, Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Ringler, Mrs. Rose Abdelnour, all of Roanoke; 12 nieces and six nephews. A prayer service will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 7 p.m. Sunday. A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection has been changed from 11:15 a.m. Monday to 11 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. It will be conducted by the Rev. Father Joseph Metzger and the Rev. Father Stephen Rule. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
