The Maroons officially received their first NCAA Division III tournament bid, after winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament Saturday. Roanoke (18-3) was seeded third in the South Region and will meet second-seeded Methodist (14-3) at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg. The host Eagles (14-2-2) will meet fourth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan (15-3-2) in the second game.
The Maroons also swept the ODAC postseason awards announced Sunday. Roanoke's Dustin Fonder, a senior midfielder from the North Cross School, was selected the conference's player of the year. Scott Allison, who guided Roanoke to the regular-season and tournament titles, was voted coach of the year.
Joining Fonder on the All-ODAC first team were forward Andy Smith and defender Nelson Vasquez. Midfielder Rick Wells and defender Jason Gildea were second-team choices, and goalkeeper Rick Keeley was an honorable-mention selection.
Washington and Lee defender Eric Christensen was a first-team choice.
