OBIT SHEPHERD, H. VIRGIL

SHEPHERD, H. Virgil, 94, of Rt. 6, Bedford, died Saturday, October 30, 1993 in Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bedford County on June 10, 1899, a son of the late Samuel Henry Shepherd and Geneva Whorley Shepherd. He was preceded in death by two wives, Rennie Jane Spradlin Shepherd and Mary Frazier Ransom Shepherd, a son, William Josephus Shepherd and a daughter, Mary Virginia Shepherd. He was the retired owner and operator of Shepherd Store and was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kitty S. and Jake McVey, Roanoke, Marie S. and Jimmy Overstreet, Bedford; three stepsons, Corbin Ransom, Salem, Everett Ransom, Christiansburg, Bobby Ransom, Bedford; two stepdaughters, Frances R. Calloway, Bedford, Louise R. Taylor, Chesterfield; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 2, 1993, at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. John C. Mitchell Jr. and Daniel C. Craig officiating. Burial will follow in the Spradlin Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.
