OFFICERS GET AWARDS FOR DUI CONVICTIONS

People Against Impaired Drivers of the Greater Roanoke area recently recognized law enforcement officers who have had the most prosecutions and convictions in driving under the influence cases in their respective departments.

Award recipients included: Sgt. Calvin Eddy, Bedford County Sheriff's Department; Sgt. Larry Carr, Botetourt County Sheriff's Department; Deputy Timothy Tatum, Franklin County Sheriff's Department; Ranger Robert Milliron, National Park Service; Officer Roger S. Fuller and Officer Jim Goad, both of Roanoke City Police Department; Officer Chris Reynolds, Roanoke County Police Department; Officer Walter Young, Salem Police Department; Cpl. Ronald Thompson, Vinton Police Department; Trooper Tim A. Steele, Virginia State Police; Officer B.T. Smith, Bedford Police Department; and Officer Anthony Panebianco, Buena Vista Police Department.

The group also presented prevention awards to the D.A.R.E. programs in Franklin and Roanoke counties, Salem and Roanoke, and the B.E.S.T. program in Botetourt County. The Safety Council of Southwest Virginia, the Blue Ridge Community Traffic Safety Board and the Roanoke Area Youth Substance Abuse Coalition received special recognition awards.
