PEARIS TO REOPEN WITH OPRY

Nashville, Tennessee's Grand Ole Opry, meet Pearisburg's Pearis Theatre.

The Pearis, dormant and dusty for eight years, is scheduled to re-open Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with a show featuring Jimmy and Dottie Snow from the Grand Ole Opry Gospel Show. Lonzo and Oscar, bluegrass comedians featured on the show, will also perform, along with other local singers and dancers.

Sylvertron Corp. has decided to reopen the half-century old theatre, which for most of the past 30 years has been vacant, said Sylvia Fleener, president of the corporation.

Fleener plans to provide weekly entertainment in the form of country music singers and dances, and to give local children a place to go.

Sylvertron hopes to turn the theatre, which will seat 500 to 700 people, into the flagship of a circuit of southwest Virginia theatres, Fleener said.
