MORISSETTE TO RETURN TO EXPRESS

The Roanoke Express breathed a collective sigh of relief Thursday morning when it learned that captain Dave "Moose" Morissette did not break his right leg, as feared, in Wednesday's 6-3 road loss to the Charlotte Checkers.

X-rays taken Thursday morning at Roanoke Memorial Hospital revealed that Morissette sustained a severe bruise below his right knee. Express trainer Dana McGuane said Morissette could be back on skates today, but the left wing is being listed as doubtful by the club to see action in tonight's road game in Raleigh.

"Dave was originally diagnosed with a broken right tibia by the Charlotte team doctor," McGuane said. "But the X-rays determined he did not suffer a break."

Morissette, who leads the East Coast Hockey League in penalty minutes with 83, was injured when he was slashed and then kneed on the same play by Checkers forward Jason Clarke.
