Fieldcrest Cannon Inc., an Eden, N.C., textile company with operations in Henry County, on Thursday mailed a consent statement to its stockholders in connection with issuance of preferred stock to finance a portion of the company's acquisition of Amoskeag Co. Net proceeds are expected to approximate $72 million.

\ Goody's Family Clothing Inc. said Thursday it will open 10 more stores this year, including two in Virginia. The Knoxville, Tenn.-based chain will open stores in Wytheville and Staunton. The others will be in Logan and Beckley, W.Va.; Steubenville, Ohio; Talladega and Dothan, Ala.; Vicksburg, Miss.; Kinston, N.C.; and Fort Walton, Fla.
