ROSE'S TO CLOSE 9 STORES IN VIRGINIA

HENDERSON, N.C. - Rose's Stores Inc., which filed for bankruptcy protection in September, plans to close 40 of its 215 stores, including nine in Virginia.

The Henderson-based retailer said Friday the stores to be shut down are in Bedford, Newport News, Petersburg, Pulaski, Staunton, Suffolk and Tappahannock, and two in Virginia Beach.

Nearly 550 of the company's 3,000 Virginia workers will be laid off, Rose's said. The closings will bring the number of Rose's stores in Virginia to 40. - Associated Press
