OBIT-JARVIS, WILLIAM MCKINLEY, ("BILL")

JARVIS, William McKinley, ("Bill"), 92, of Narrows, died Thursday evening, November 4, 1993, in a Bluefield, W. Va. hospital. He was born in Tazewell County on December 17, 1900 and was the son of the late John Henry and Louise Belcher Jarvis. Mr. Jarvis was a longtime resident of Narrows, after spending his boyhood years in Monroe County. He married his beloved wife, Kathryn Spangler, in 1925 and they moved to Narrows to live and raise their family. For many years, he was active in community and fraternal affairs, especially the Lakeland Chapter # 74 O.E.S. and Intermont Lodge # 269 A.F. & A.M. He served as past Patron of Lakeland Chapter eight times and was past Master of Intermont Lodge # 269 A.F. & A.M. He was District Deputy Grand Master of the 41st Masonic District three times. He was a former deputy sheriff of Giles County. He was employed as a turbine operator by the Old Virginian Power Company Plant in Narrows for 38 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Narrows, where he served for many years as Deacon and Elder of the church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Anita Jarvis Jorgensen of Ormond Beach, Fla. and a sister, Clara Phillips, Daniel, Va. Funeral services will be held Sunday 4 p.m., at Riffe's Funeral Chapel in Narrows, with the Rev. Ralph Kidd and the Rev. Mark Spangler officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg, Va., with graveside rites conducted by Intermont Lodge # 269 A.F. & A.M. A memorial service will be conducted by Lakeland Chapter # 74 O.E.S. Saturday evening at 8 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
