SHEPHERD

Mr. and Mrs. Harley Bolen Shepherd of Galax, Va., celebrated their Golden Anniversary on Saturday, September 11, 1993. Doe Run Lodge, located on the Blue Ridge Parkway, was the setting for this gala event hosted by their children, David and Holly Shepherd, Midlothian, Va. and Yvonne and Donnie Slaughter of Indian Valley, Va. With family, loved ones, and friends witnessing, Bolen and Rubyrenewed their vows with the Reverend Billy J. Boggs officiating. Gayle Harris, sister of Ruby, provided the music and special reading for this event. CathyHarris Payne, niece, arranged the lovely floral designs. Retired with 37\ years from Appalachian Power, Bolen is also avolunteer Fireman with 46 yrs. inHillsville and Galax Departments. He serves as Deacon and Trustee at Fries Pentecostal Holiness Church. Ruby, the former Ruby F. King, was employed with the Carroll County School System for 17 1/2 years and has held various othersecretarial positions including W.A.F.

Ruby and Bolen are both active in their church, Fries Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Married in Max Meadows, Va.,September 11, 1943, by the Reverend Charles McDaniel of the Pentecostal Faith, the couple has six grandchildren - Stacy Lynn, Stephanie, Justin and Daniel Shepherd and Sonya and JoshuaSlaughter.

Stacy Lynn Shepherd, a precious granddaughter, was born April 17, 1967 and went "home" to be with the Lord on April 7, 1969.
