CONTRACTOR MAY BID AGAIN ON FEDERAL JOBS

The Navy will lift its three-year suspension on awarding federal contracts to Tidewater businessman Herman Valentine after 15 months, according to Navy General Counsel Steven S. Honigman.

Valentine's Systems Management American Corp. of Norfolk pleaded guilty in 1991 to conspiracy to defraud the government on Navy contracts and was fined $500,000. Valentine and the computer services company were suspended Nov. 2, 1992, from getting federal contracts.

SMA was put under the control of a trustee for the period of Valentine's suspension and was again allowed to do business with the government this year as part of a settlement agreement with the Navy, according to Wyatt B. Durrette, a lawyer for SMA.
