TEACHER OF THE WEEK

It isn't always easy being a first-year teacher. But Judy Bauer of Christiansburg Elementary has had extra pressure to deal with in her first year. She was asked to step in for another teacher a month into the school year.

Both she and her class seem to have adjusted just fine.

"She's loving, caring, and she's just perfect," said the pupils who nominated Bauer.

Bauer said she believes a good teacher should be patient and have a love of learning.

In her free time, Bauer enjoys hiking, camping, quilting, and maybe most of all, traveling. She has traveled to England and driven across the country. She has also been to Greece.

Bauer said she loves her kids at school and someday hopes to have some to come home to.

If you have a nomination for Teacher of the Week, send the name of the nominee, his or her school and why you think that teacher should be honored. Include your name, telephone number and school and send to NewsFun, P.O. Box 2491, Roanoke 24010-2491. The Science Museum of Western Virginia will award each Teacher of the Week a gift certificate for $50 to be spent at the museum's Teacher Resource Center.
