TEACHER FACES SEX CHARGE

A Norfolk science teacher has been charged with having sex with a 16-year-old female student.

Joseph C. Allmond Jr., 28, is accused having oral sex and sexual intercourse at least twice with a Norview High School student at Allmond's apartment in Virginia Beach.

He was charged Monday with two counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor and two counts of crimes against nature. He turned himself in and was released on a $5,000 bond.

Virginia Beach police spokesman Lou Thurston said Tuesday that Allmond sometimes gave the student rides to school and to his apartment after school.

Superintendent George Raiss said Allmond was suspended without pay.

Allmond declined to comment on the charges.
