APPEALS COURT UPHOLDS EX-MAYOR'S CONVICTION

A divided panel of the Virginia Court of Appeals has affirmed the conviction of former Chesapeake Mayor David I. Wynne on a charge of obtaining money by false pretenses.

Wynne was accused of soliciting $1,000 from a Japanese company to pay for entertaining foreign dignitaries, then using the money to pay travel expenses he owed to the city. He was sentenced in December 1990 to 100 hours of community service. - Associated Press
