OBIT SMITH, JOHN HENRY SR.

SMITH, John Henry Sr., 65, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, November 8, 1993. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. George Dudley Smith. He leaves to cherish his memory, six daughters, Marie (Ralph) Nemo, Josephine (Samuel) Smith, Lucy (James) Johnson, Arlene (Melvin) Jones, Jeanne Scales, Donna Goodrich, all of Roanoke; two sons, John H. (Mornique) Smith Jr., Roanoke, James R. (Patricia) Scales, Columbus, Ga.; one sister, Ollie Mary Pittman, Kentucky; two brothers, Bobby (Marion) Smith, James E. (Marion) Smith, both of Roanoke; one aunt, Nina Cotton, Roanoke; 17 grandchildren, Debbie, Angela, Nicole, LaQuita, Brittany, Tonya, LaToya, Michael (Pap), Tyronne, John III, James A., Melvin, Keith, Darnell, Ralph II, Michael J., Kumar; nine great-grandchildren, Latisha, Ashley, Michael Jr., Melvin Jr., Tymon, Tyneshia, Leucreshia, Latishia, Kiawwana; a devoted companion, Mary V. Scales; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday 2 p.m. at Pilgrim Baptist Church. Rev. Dwight O. Steele will officiate with interment in Williams Memorial Park. The procession will assemble at the home of his daughter, Lucy Johnson, 1531 Golfside Ave. N.W. The family will receive friends Friday 7 to 8 p.m. at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.
