OBIT BLASSER, WILMUR GARY
BLASSER, Wilmur Gary, 96, of Roanoke, and formerly of Lexington, died at
7:40 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 1993, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was
born on February 11, 1897, in York County, Pa., a son of the late John and
Frances Wolfe Blasser. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I. He retired
as manager of the Rose's 5 & 10 in Lexington on January 1, 1964, after over 28
years of service. Mr. Blasser was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church,
Lexington. He was also a 50 year member of Mountain City Lodge #67 AF & AM and
a member of the former Eastern Star Chapter #164, Lexington. He was preceded
in death by his wife, Louise Schuman Blasser in April 1978. Survivors include
a son and daughter-in-law, Richard D. and Hazel S. Blasser, Roanoke; a
daughter and son-in-law, Joanne B. and Lawrence M. Yancey, Richmond; six
grandchildren, Richard D. Blasser Jr., Yardley, Pa., Maj. John D. Blasser,
U.S. Army of Heidelberg, Germany, Frances L. Blasser, Harrisonburg, Mrs. Mary
B. Brown, Dillon, S.C., Mrs. Cynthia Y. Sanford and Mrs. Laurie Y. Eubank,
both of Richmond; ten great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Mr.
Blasser was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Funeral
services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 1993, in Williams
Funeral Service Chapel, Lexington, with the Rev. Kenneth K. Patrick and Rev.
John Cochran officiating. Interment will follow in Stonewall Jackson Memorial
Cemetery, Lexington. The family will receive friends Friday, November 12,
1993, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to
the Trinity United Methodist Church, 147 S. Main St., Lexington, Va. 24450.
