WEST'S SCULPTURE IS ART IN TRUEST FORM

In regard to the flurry of objections to your Oct. 17 photograph of Pat West's fine sculpture:

The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language defines pornography as "written, graphic or other forms of communication intended to excite lascivious feelings."

How sad that some children are being taught the human body is pornographic. Since we must assume those children all have bodies, we can also assume such teachings are potentially devastating to their self-esteem.

Art illuminates, it does not destroy. Teaching that the body is pornographic is true pornography. Pat West's whimsical portrayal of the human form is true art.\ Ann Goette Blacksburg
