HELEN PRILLAMAN, LOCAL ACTIVIST, AUTHOR DIES

Helen Prillaman, author of two historical books about the Roanoke area and co-founder of the Williamson Road Action Forum, died Friday.

Born in 1919, Prillaman moved to the Williamson Road section as a child and remained dedicated to the area throughout her life.

She helped establish the nonprofit action forum to instill community pride and improve property values.

She also promoted the area through her writings. "A Place Apart," published in 1982, gives a detailed account of the people who have lived on Williamson Road. Her 1986 publication, "Places Near The Mountains," documents the history of North Roanoke County and south Botetourt County.
