The high of 82 broke the 1985 record of 77 and allowed residents to enjoy one more taste of warm weather before winter sets in.
The unseasonable weather was caused by a cool air front over the Ohio/Tennessee valley and a high pressure system over the Atlantic, both pushing warm air toward Virginia.
The record high for today, 75, was also set in 1985, and could be beaten with temperatures predicted in the mid-70s.
