VA. VIOLENT CRIMES ROSE, STATISTICS SAY

Crime in Virginia has decreased slightly compared to 1992, but most violent crimes were up.

The Virginia Uniform Crime Reporting Newsletter for the first nine months of 1993 showed the crime index down by 3 percent compared to the first nine months of 1992.

All violent crimes except murder increased. Property crimes decreased.

Rape had the largest increase, 6 percent. Robbery was up 4 percent and aggravated assault, 1 percent. Murder was down by 1 percent, burglary by 5 percent and larceny and motor vehicle theft, 3 percent each.
