HUSBAND WILL SERVE NIGHTS, WEEKENDS

A 32-year-old Wythe County man who shot his wife in the face during an argument will serve a two-year jail sentence on nights and weekends.

James Lee Thompson, convicted of unlawful wounding, also must pay all Joanne Thompson's future medical bills stemming from the shooting. The bullet from a .45-caliber pistol went through her face and neck and lodged in her shoulder.

James Thompson was sentenced last week to five years, with all but two suspended. The arrangement for serving his sentence was to allow him to continue working.
