OBIT MATTOX, JOHN WESLEY SR.

MATTOX, John Wesley Sr. 74, of 257 Scuffling Hill Rd., Rocky Mount, died Tuesday morning, November 16, 1993, at his residence. Mr. Mattox was a member of Furnace Creek Baptist Church, retired from E. I. DuPont after 38 1/2 years, and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude D. Mattox; and a son, Johnny Mattox. He is survived by three sons, Earl Randall Mattox, Union Hall, Bobby G. Mattox, Bassett, Mike A. Mattox, Rocky Mount; four daughters, Shelby Sink, Ridgeway, Dixie Markham, Chattanooga, Tenn., Bonnie Stanley, Rocky Mount, Mitzie Hale, Glade Hill; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Clyde Mattox, Martinsville, Euell ("Dick") Mattox, Rocky Mount, Haywood Mattox, Rocky Mount; one sister, Norma Jean Akers, Rocky Mount. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Flora Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Troy Mays and the Rev. Carroll Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service, 342 South Main St., Rocky Mount.
