RURAL FOLKS MAY GET LOWER PHONE BILLS

People who live in remote locations at a distance from their telephone exchange switching centers are about to get a $1.94 monthly break on their phone bills.

Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. said Tuesday it will drop that fee, starting Dec. 1.

It will affect more than 115,000 C&P customers in 111 Virginia exchanges, saving them a total of $2.9 million a year, the company said.

The charge affects virtually every telephone exchange in Western Virginia, but relatively few people within those exchanges.
