YES, THAT'S FABIO TRYING TO GET YOU TO KICK THE HABIT

Here's a hunk of a volunteer promoting today's Great American Smokeout. Fabio, the macho model for countless romance novel covers, is pictured on posters from the American Cancer Society.

"Lips Are For Kissing, Not Smoking," says the poster that promotes the 17th annual Smokeout, a one-day attempt to get Americans to kick the habit.

"We think Fabio's great because he's getting a good reception from younger women, and that's a group that wasn't receptive to previous health messages," says Joanne Schellenbach of the American Cancer Society in New York City.

An estimated 15 million Americans will try to quit today by discarding their cigarettes, donning "Please Bear With Me, I'm Trying to Quit" buttons, and maybe even thinking of Fabio for inspiration.
