OBIT-BROWN, ELIZABETH MEADE

BROWN, Elizabeth Meade, 74, of 200 Westover Lane, Martinsville, died Wednesday, November 17, 1993, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Rives S. Brown Jr., who died March 18, 1970. Mrs. Brown was born in Danville on September 29, 1919, daughter of the late Edmund B. Meade and the late Helen Douthat Meade. Mrs. Brown was owner of Rives S. Brown Enterprises. In 1988, she was named Citizen of the Year by the Martinsville City Police Department. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 42 years, a member of the Entre Nous Book Club, and a charter member of the Garden Study Club. She was an active member of the Christ Episcopal Church, where she was a former vestryman. Surviving are four daughters, Elizabeth Brown Cullinane, Helen ("Ginger") Brown, Mary Rives Brown Elliott, all of Martinsville, Pat Brown Walmsley, Ridgeway; one son, James D. Coleman Jr., Martinsville; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucy Brown Coleman, February, 1981. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. Ed Covert. Entombment in Brown Mausoleum in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Boys Home, Covington, Va. 24426. The family will receive friends at their home. McKee Funeral Services is in charge of the arrangements.
