SALEM HIGH PUBLICATIONS WIN ASSOCIATION HONORS

All three of Salem High School's student publications have won top literary awards from several school associations.

The Oracle school newspaper, the Laconian yearbook and the Delphi literary magazine won Trophy Class awards from the Virginia High School League for the previous school year.

This is the eighth year the newspaper won in the Trophy Class, the highest category of prizes.

The newspaper and yearbook also were runners-up in the competition for the Charles E. Savedge award from the Virginia High School League. The yearbook was selected as one of the top five high school yearbooks in Virginia.

The yearbook also received top awards from the Columbia Press Association for concept and writing and from the National Press Association for concept, coverage and design.

The literary magazine won top place in the Trophy Class given by the Virginia High School League.

It also won a first place from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and an All-Columbia Award for concept.

Student editors for the three publications were Kathy Pesta, Delphi; Deanna Garrett, Oracle; and Jennifer Linton, Laconian.

Faculty advisers for the publications are: Debbie Carter, Delphi; Joyce Noell, Laconian; and Nancy Simmons, Oracle.

All of the publications were judged on issues from the 1992-93 school year.

In addition to awards already announced, the publications are in the running for Gold Circle Awards to be announced at Columbia University in New York in March.
