AIRMAN 1ST CLASS LAURA L. THOMPSON, daughter of Lynn M. Thompson of 859 Dexter Road and James M. Thompson Jr. of 3392 Morning Dove Road, has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

\ ARMY CAPT. LaFONDA F. EDGE, daughter of George W. and Katie J. Jernigan of 3120 Kirkland Drive, has arrived for duty at Camp Humphreys in Pyongtaek-Gun, South Korea. Edge is a transportation officer.

\ THE 4TH COMBAT ENGINEER BATTALION, 4TH MARINE DIVISION in Roanoke has announced the promotions of the following Roanoke Valley residents: Lance Cpl. Kevin E. Mccurdy, son of Mr. and Mrs. L.E. McCurdy of Troutville and a 1991 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School; Pfc. Matthew T. Ward, son of Robert L. and Nellie H. Ward of Fincastle and a 1992 graduate of James River High School; and Lance Cpl. William E. Massey, a 1992 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ MASTER SGT. JOSEPH M. CONNER, son of Joseph N. and Nancy D. Conner of 5737 Thornrose Road, has been promoted to his present rank while serving at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.
