ACCUSED CASTRATOR TO JOIN HUSBAND FOR HOLIDAYS

A woman accused of cutting off her sleeping husband's testicles with a pair of 5-inch scissors will be allowed to spend the holidays with him, a judge ruled Thursday.

Aurelia Macias, 35, is charged with spousal battery and mayhem in the attack on her 39-year-old husband, James, who she claimed was abusive and had extramarital affairs.

She has pleaded innocent to both counts, which carry a maximum 12 years in prison upon conviction, said district attorney's spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons. Trial was set for Jan. 6.

Both Aurelia Macias and her husband had asked Superior Court Judge Marsha N. Revel to lift a restraining order against her so the couple could spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with their three children, ages 18 months to 17 years.

Macias told authorities he fell asleep on Sept. 20, 1992, then felt a sharp pain in his groin.

Aurelia Macias' attorney, Nan Whitfield, has said that Macias had abused his wife, and had come home drunk the night of the attack. - Associated Press
