GROUP AWARDS GRANT TO RAILROAD PARTNERSHIP

The Center on Rural Development has awarded the Appalachian Railroad Heritage Partnership a $16,850 grant.

Local supporters of the partnership include the Fifth District Planning Commission, Downtown Roanoke Inc., the Virginia Museum of Transportation Inc. and the Roanoke Chapter-National Railway Historical Society.

The partnership will use the grant to hire a part-time director to coordinate a multiregional effort for tourism development.

The partnership will market the railroad history of Virginia by promoting the local railroad heritage in a 22-county region in western Virginia and southern West Virginia.
