The Roanoke Chapter of The Links Inc. recently raised $2,000 to help provide day care services for the elderly in Roanoke Valley.
The Links will be compiling a list of elderly residents who need day-care service and pay for those services on a contractual basis at adult care centers.
The money was raised during The Links' annual gala, in which the service organization honored 15 Roanoke Valley residents as "Roanokers on the Move."
A special award was presented to Dr. Maynard Law for his contributions in the fields of medicine and civil rights. The Harrison Museum of African American Culture also was presented an award.

Communication - JoAnne Poindexter and Cassandra Finch.
Education - Delores Johns and George Franklin.
Entrepreneur - Danette Hooper.
Humanitarian - Emerson Gilmer.
Religion - The Rev. Dwight Steele.
Legal profession - Onzlee Ware and E. Ann Hill.
Medical profession - Dr. LeGree Hallman and Dr. Conrad Claytor.
