REPORTED EARNINGS

Hechinger Co., Landover, Md.-based hardware chain with a store in Roanoke, on Thursday reported third-quarter net earnings of $2.4 million, 6 cents per share, compared to $6.5 million, 16 cents per share, in the 1992 quarter. Operating income rose 10 percent, to $13.7 million from $12.4 million. Sales were $524.3 million, up 13 percent from $464 million. Comparable-store sales were up 8 percent.

For the first nine months, net earnings were $23.5 million, 56 cents per share, compared to a net loss of $29.1 million, 70 cents per share, in fiscal 1992. Operating income rose 6 percent, to $54.2 million from $50.9 million. Sales were $1.61 billion, up 11 percent from $1.45 billion last year. Comparable-store sales were up 3 percent.

Littlefield, Adams

Littlefield, Adams & Co. on Tuesday reported pretax earnings of $438,000, or 22 cents a share, for the third quarter ended Sept. 30. Revenue was reported at $3.9 million. This compares to earnings of $90,000, or 5 cents a share, on revenues of $1.6 million in the 1992 quarter.
