Construction will resume Monday on the water line project that is causing traffic delays.
The project was halted for a week so the workers could go hunting during the first week of the deer season.
The work is being done by Aaron J. Conner General Contractor, a Roanoke Valley company.
"It's something we always do for people in our crews who like to hunt," said Larry Conner, president of the company.
City officials said it is not unusual for contractors to halt work on a project for a few days for various reasons.
Shutting down a project doesn't increase the city's costs because contractors bid a fixed amount.
Conner said the construction in the Main Street area will be finished in about six weeks.
The Main Street line is part of a $30 million project for new water lines and expansion of the Carvins Cove filter plant.
